I have always thought The Chrysalids by John Wyndham was an outstanding book, right up to the end. There are a couple of things I disagreed with about the ending. This is my attempt at an alternate ending that replaces the Zealanders' impossible Leonardo da Vinci helicopter with a more practical aircraft. It's getting longer than I expected, and may run 10 to 12 chapters.

Michael returns to Waknuk and falls in with some survivors along the way. He realises he needs to establish some more formal with Rachel and her family, as well as accomplish some unpleasant tasks. John Wyndam owns the Chrysalids and I am eternally grateful to him for such a powerful story, which introduced me to understanding and recognising bigotry. please!

David experiences a series of flashbacks while sweeping his living room floor, set 1-2 days before they flee to the fringes. Written as an ELA project, with the intent of portraying the development of two conflicting characters' stance on a theme. I picked the existence/goodness of God.

As the story folds and the book closes it's remaining words on David, Rosalind, and Petra, there lays another chapter. A chapter that shows us of Michael and Rachel's hardships, in an attempt to reunite with their friends.
