After a surprising visit from Ignitus, the new Chronicler, they learn the Dark Armies are led by Malefor's last surviving general, Onyx. After Spyro discovers the truth about his mysterious past, he heads out to learn about his origins. Along the way, he struggles to grasp his sexuality after rescuing and meeting a surviving dragon named Leon. Together, they will learn what it means to be a dragon while facing the evil forces of the Dark Master's feared general, Cynder.

After the rest of his kind has been turned into crystal statues during an interview, its up to Spyro to save the day. But it won't be an easy task, as he will have to travel through each homeland while facing the armies of the Gnorc King: Gnasty Gnorc.
