Galadriel; she is halved. Something has invaded her body through her chest; the wound a portal to her soul where ancient evils can slither in. Upon touching it, her heartbeat pulses on her palm. It ticks slower, the pattern skewed and unpredictable, as if it's been tinkered with. As if a small cog has slipped into the clockwork, throwing the beats out of sync, diluting time.

It is a moment Maethoriel never imagined, but the empty raiment at her feet proves it had, indeed, come to . Sauron is dead. She should feel relief, but all she knows instead is a sense of fear over a world that will see not only herself, but her companions as monsters to be eradicated at any cost. "Where were you?" he whispered. "One moment I'm looking at the bloodied sky and the next you're out of my sight. I called for you. I called," he swallowed, "and cried and begged for you to be safe." She turned away, lest he see her glistening eyes. Let the night be over, for she couldn't bear this. "I survived. I always do," she answered bitterly.

"I will fight, if you are with me." He can fight darkness itself. She will demand it, someday. She lifts her chin, but leans closer. "I serve no King."

Eregion, after Halbrand is healed. The fate of the rings is decided between stolen kisses and promises.

After Elrond pulls Galadriel from the Glanduin, she is haunted by memories. Every moment she spent with Halbrand over the past month has turned into something dark and terrible.

Being a elf is peaceful, but also dangerous, and being a thief is worse. Stealing is a punishable offense, but stealing from the King would be death...or would it?
