A Season Four canon divergence- takes place right around 4.04. (Let's not even introduce Jillian #2, shall we?) New relationships/new distractions, but Rita cannot shake her feelings after the shooting. Joshua Radin was my muse again- the inspiration for this fic is loosely based on his song, "Make It Easy."

Life is complicated these days - If you're looking for a happy ending, this is my version of the made-for-TV reunion movie that never happened.

With Chris' life hanging in the balance, Rita is forced to face her greatest fear: the loss of her partner.  At the same time, she is forced to evaluate her feelings regarding the love for her partner.  From the seminal opening minutes of "Natural Selection Pt. 1" (S04E01)

This takes place during the episode "In Too Deep" (2.05), with references to "Social Call" (2.03). Chris and Lem grab a beer right after the bust that didn't happen. This idea might stray from canon a bit- in the episode it seems like Lem follows Jackie right after the warehouse incident. We'll pretend that he decided to wait an hour or two to catch up with Chris at Society.

It's a typical Monday morning for Chris and Rita until they discover the Captain is missing. No facts, no fixes, and no canon in this one. Story exists just for fun.

Written from Rita's POV as she observes Chris and, in watching him, reflects on their relationship, and her shifting sense of what that relationship is and could be. A series of one-shots.

Another "What if..." story that picks up at the end of Season Five's Pulp Addiction. Do you believe in destiny?

What if someone else knew that Chris and Rita were in love before they itted it to themselves? This story takes place during "Friendly Persuasion" (5.04), between the Chris and Cynthia Rush IR3 'conversation' (insert eye roll here), and the end where he turns her down in front of Rita at the shop. (And then leaves Rita right after that to go on a date. Oh, Chris!)

What happened after drinks with Michael? The writer juliagulia6 coincidentally published her imaginings on this topic today. If you haven't read it yet, go read her new chapter in her story Pieces. I did and loved it. This story is my version. And is it just me or do you all think the "second night" would have been the evening before? Chris's meal would have been done early.

Rita encounters an old friend that gives her some perspective as she deals with Chris' departure. This scene takes place in the middle of "Natural Selection, Part 2"- before the 13:38 mark when Harry calls Rita into his office. Author's Notes at the end.

After thirty-one and thirty years on the force, Chris and Rita are set to retire. Their last few hours with the Palm Beach PD highlight memories, family, and a bond to each other that has only strengthened over time.
